This Dash 8 client operates in Canada’s north, flying passengers and cargo. The operator needed to address the reliability concerns and increasing maintenance costs of the legacy tube-EFIS.
Why the Operator Selected MC2
We are Canada’s aging aircraft specialist, particularly in tune with those flying in Canada’s northernmost regions where austere conditions can be challenging. A longtime MC2 client, this operator trusts us to understand the mission, propose and deliver a solution at a fair price.
The new Esterline CMC CMA-6800 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is six to 10 times more reliable than obsolete CRT (cathode-ray tube) displays, lowering direct maintenance costs and future-proofing the Dash 8 flight deck. The CMA-6800 LCD display is a form, fit and function replacement solution for the Honeywell ED-800 CRT units. A quick conversion is achieved by keeping the existing aircraft wiring, ensuring minimum downtime required for upgrade and minimum disruption to aircraft operations. The design also has hardware built-in provisions to add functional capabilities to the display, not possible with the legacy CRT. The unit retains the use of existing symbol generators and control panels and no retraining is required. CMC’s LCD display delivers reduced weight and power consumption compared to the replaced CRT to improve your operating costs.
About the Mods
This mod was a fairly straightforward update, which reduced this commercial operator’s down time significantly.
The mod included:
- Four Esterline CMA-6800 Liquid Crystal Displays replaced the aircraft’s four existing and now obsolete CRT displays.
The resulting upgrade gave this commercial operator new, more reliable displays, which also offer operational Minimum Equipment List (MEL) relief.
What the Operator Says
“Swapping out our old CRTs gives us the latest in technology, which helped us address our maintenance and obsolescence concerns, while at the same time being fairly straightforward. We’re long-time clients of MC2 because they genuinely understand and respect the challenges that flying in the north presents.”
